Dutch heavy equipment provider Mammoet has formed a “strategic partnership” with Dubai-headquartered Astro Offshore for the provision of support vehicles for oil and gas projects.
Mammoet said the deal will allow it to provide “comprehensive solutions in on- and off-shore transport for oil and gas construction projects in the Middle East”, and leverage its previous experience of implementing large transportation jobs in the region and the subcontinent.

Transportation projects implemented by Astro Offshore include Essar Projects’ D1 development, Larsen and Toubro’s Phase-1 of Nasr & Umm Lulu Field, and 19 platform jackets for Saipem.
Meanwhile, Mammoet’s energy portfolio in the Middle East includes developments such as Adnoc’s Shah Gas project; Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s Clean Fuels project; and Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah NGL.
Speaking on the agreement, Martijn Kuipers, managing director of Mammoet Middle East and Africa, said: “As barging is a critical aspect in the transport chain for all future oil and gas projects in this region, our new partnership will bolster our available barge and tug fleet and further strengthen our services in on- and offshore transport.”

The deal comes after a busy 2018 for Mammoet, which was awarded a contract to work on Kuwait International Airport’s new terminal building in May last year. Turkish contractor Limak Insaat chose Mammoet to build the $4.3bn (KWD1.3bn) project.
February 2018 saw the company add 35 telescopic and crawler cranes to its existing fleet in the Middle East. The cranes have capacities ranging from 30t to 1250t, and they will be available through Mammoet’s branches in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
