UAE-headquartered Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has signed a volume commitment extension agreement with Danish shipping giant Maersk to transport its aluminium output around the world.

One of the Middle East’s largest aluminium producers, EGA makes 11,000 daily shipments using more than 100,000 containers. This output is exported to customers in more than 60 countries.

According to a report by state news agency, Wam, EGA is the UAE’s largest exporter outside the oil and gas industry.

The aluminium smelter recorded $6.4bn (AED23.5bn) revenues in 2018, a 14% surge from corresponding 2017 figures of $5.6bn (AED20.5bn) . The company attributes the increase in revenues to higher sales volumes and improved benchmark prices and product premiums.

EGA's $3.3bn (AED12.1bn) alumina refinery, which is nearing completion, is the first facility of its kind in the UAE.
