Swiss lift-maker Schindler, Spain's Telefónica enter IoT partnership
Spanish telecoms firm will provide AI-powered platform Schindler Ahead IoT services for global roaming network
Telecomms giant Telefónica will be the internet of things (IoT) and network connectivity partner for elevator company Schindler’s cloud-based digital offering for smart elevators and escalators, Schindler Ahead.
Under the global partnership, the Spanish telecoms firm will provide Schindler IoT connectivity services for its global roaming network.
Schindler said in a statement that its digital platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) to provide predictive maintenance by analysing cloud-based data from connected elevators and escalators.
The firm said this improves equipment reliability and uptime, and delivers insights to better operate buildings, while also offering passengers "greater convenience through interactive and personalised services”.
Markus Staudenmann, head of commercial at Schindler Digital Group, said the partnership with Telefónica reinforced its commitment to delivering high-quality digital services by using IoT connectivity.
Schindler Group is a central figure in the global people flow industry.
Its UAE business Schindler UAE has established several offices in the country, including a technical training centre to develop local engineering talent.
