Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has revealed it organised awareness programmes to promote the importance of electricity and water conservation, avoiding resource waste, and highlighting steps to reduce consumption during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

More than 23,500 people took part in 30 Dewa activities during the month, including awareness lectures and interactive competitions in several locations across Dubai, such as mosques, iftar tents, airports, shopping centres, and Ramadan majlis areas.

Commenting on the programme, Dewa's managing director and chief executive officer, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “Organising this awareness programme during the Holy Month of Ramadan supports Dewa’s strategy to consolidate the foundations of environmental sustainability and support the sustainable development of Dubai by rationalising the use of electricity, water, and natural resources to ensure sustainability for future generations.”

Cumulative savings achieved by Dewa's programmes between 2009 and 2018 are valued at 2 terawatt-hours of electricity, and 7.4 billion gallons of water, worth $326.7m (AED1.2bn), accordign to Dubai Media Office.

These savings also contributed to the reduction of 1 million tonnes of carbon emissions during the period.
