UAE telco Etisalat made the first super-fast video 5G call from its headquarters in Abu Dhabi to the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, marking a new milestone in the technology’s adoption in the Emirates, with the move coming months after Etisalat became the Mena region’s first entity to confirm the provision of 5G at an international airport, Abu Dhabi’s Midfield Terminal Building.

Etisalat said in an Arabic-language statement that it had started deploying more than 1,000 coverage towers in 2019, allowing customers to experience HD video, and augmented and virtual reality, through 5G.

Expo 2020 Dubai will be Etisalat’s first commercial customer of 5G services in the region.

Etisalat’s 5G services will be provided at speeds of up to 1GBps and lower latency of 1 millisecond, with the technology expected to be 20 times faster than 4G.
