Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma) announced that it would be revealing the UAE’s technical regulations and standards to rationalise energy consumption in the fuel, oil and gas, and petroleum product sectors at the 24th World Energy Congress (WEC), to hosted held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) on 9-12 September, 2019.
Apart from the announcement of key legislative efforts in the area, Esma will also present projects for the modernisation of energy efficiency programmes covering household appliances such as refrigerators and freezers, petroleum products, electrical appliances, vehicles, water consumption, and the UAE system for the control of solar energy products.
The total energy efficiency cards issued by Esma have reportedly reached 11.4 million for electrical products to date, with home air-conditioners making up 4.96 million of the total number, followed by washing machines and dryers (2.4 million), refrigerators and freezers (1.96 million), electric storage water heaters (1.87 million), dishwashers (181,000), and TVs (36,000).
In the water sector, three million green labels have been issued by Esma for consumption-control products used in the health sector, which contributed to savings of approximately two million gallons from the beginning of the mandatory application on July 2017 until the end of 2018.
According to the UAE’s state news agency, Wam, Esma’s director-general, Abdulla Abdul Qader Al Maeeni, said that the authority was leading national legislative efforts in the fields of research and development and adoption of international standards in vital areas such as the energy file.
Al Maeeni added that the country’s government teams were working in an integrated manner to achieve legislative efforts on energy efficiency, starting with the hydrogen, electric, and hybrid vehicles sector.
“Through efforts to rationalise consumption in various devices and sectors, we currently have nine technical regulations,” he said.
