Supporting the FM sector

Three initiatives launched to benefit the ME facilities management market

The FM sector is set to benefit from three additional services – an FM Business Group (FMBG), an online forum and the form of an IFMA (International Facilities Management Association) Chapter in the early part of 2007.

Streamline Marketing Group (SMG) have organised the FMBG and online forum and will help play a part in the formation of the IFMA chapter in the UAE region.

Sinead Bridgett, project manager of FM Expo, said: “The Middle East is experiencing phenominal growth in construction, reflected in a plethora of exciting new projects and developments from hotels and resorts to airports, hospitals and massive commercial complexes.”

FMBG has been set up as a direct result from the amount of requests SMG received from the FM community since the FM Expo back in June.

The group will meet on a monthly basis to discuss issues affecting their business and network with other FM professionals.

The first meeting will take place on Sunday 6 November 2006 at the Renaissance Dubai Hotel.

There will be a cost of AED100 to cover costs.

It will also mark the official first step in gaining more members for the IFMA chapter.

Initial research and meetings started back in 2004 by industry professionals but this ceased back in 2005 due to there not being enough local citizens involved The aim of the FMBG is to raise awareness of the chapter and gain a minimum of 25 local professionals in order to gain IFMA chapter status.

FM Expo’s online forum has now offically been launched.

This serves as a platform to discuss and share information on the FM industry in the Middle East region.

FM Expo is set to double the number of exhibitors and floor space for the June 2007 show.

Exhibitors will include companies from the environment, energy, health and safety, IT, maintenance, management, property services and security sectors.
