While it is already known for being the region’s largest trade and networking exhibition for the security and safety industries, Intersec 2014 promises to bigger than ever this time around, with this year’s edition of the event showing a growth of 10% in overall size when compared with that of last year.
For the first time in its 15-year history, Intersec will also be reaching its 1,000-exhibitor milestone in 2014, setting the stage for a record edition of the event this year.
“It is said that a good trade exhibition offers a true reflection of the industry in which it operates and that is certainly the case with Intersec,” said Andreas Rex, senior show manager, Intersec.
“With more than 1,200 companies participating, Intersec will enjoy its largest show to date in January, and that is because the security and safety sector in the region is booming, and there is a whole host of opportunities associated with it.”
Organized by Epoc Messe Frankfurt, Intersec 2014 will have four focus areas: Commercial Security & Information Security, Safety & Health, Fire & Rescue and Homeland Security & Policing. The event, which will run from 19-21 January 2014, will be spread over ten halls in the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
“Intersec will feature 10 out of 10 of the world’s top security companies,” Rex said. “We have exhibitors from more than 50 countries, and we are expecting to see a truly international audience.”
Rex also points out that besides the exhibition, Intersec 2014 will also play host to a number of seminars and conferences that will discuss various aspects of the security industry. These include a mobile phone crimes seminar by Dubai Police Academy and a safety design in buildings conference in cooperation with Dubai Civil Defence.
“Intersec 2014 has also put an added emphasis on showcasing products, services and solutions for the warehousing, oil & gas and construction sectors,” Rex said.
“For example, solutions for real time inventory visibility, access control for people and vehicles, an integrated approach to warehouse security and solutions against fire hazards can all be found on the show floor for those visitors working in the field of warehouse security management.”
“Furthermore, technologies that meet the harsh and stringent requirements and regulations of oil, gas and petrochemical productions will be on display from companies such as Advancis, Bosch, G4S, Honeywell, Lukas, NAFFCO, Nedap and Tyco to name a few,” he added.
“In short, if you work in any sector of the security business, then you will find products, services and solutions at Intersec which can serve your needs.”

Nedap
In conversation with Joost van der Willik, managing director, Nedap
What can visitors expect to see at your stand in Intersec 2014?
During Intersec 2014, Nedap will be represented by two of its business units: Nedap AVI and Nedap Security Management. Nedap AVI is leading specialist in solutions for long-range identification of vehicles and people and Nedap Security Management offers AEOS, the world’s first software-based security platform.
The security industry is a complicated, ever-changing world. So you need to be creative and stay constantly up-to-date to ensure your security’s continuity. This is the challenge Nedap loves to solve. We thrive on making complex situations more flexible, effective and easier for you to handle. And we do this via AEOS.
It’s the first security management platform based on a versatile controller where software determines functionality. An AEOS security management platform is so flexible it can be shaped to your exact needs, and can be easily and cost-effectively adapted and updated as needed.
Nedap AVI designs and manufactures innovative solutions to provide drivers secure and comfortable vehicles access, to keep control of all vehicle and driver related (AVI) activities and thereby offer people a smooth and convenient door access.
The products we’ll highlight include uPASS Access, the world’s smallest UHF reader for hands-free door access, TRANSIT, the ultimate RFID reader vehicle and driver identification in demanding situations, ANPR Access, the purpose built license plate reader for vehicle access and others.
What are you hoping to achieve/learn at this year’s event?
With respect to Nedap AVI, we see a rapid growing interest for long-range RFID solutions for fast and convenient people access to secured buildings, sections and rooms.
What we would like to achieve is that integrators and end users recognize typical hands-free access applications and that they agree with the benefits of applying uPASS Access technology.
Second, we also would like to create understanding of how long-range vehicle and driver identification systems can add value in (highly) secured environments as well as for less complex vehicle access applications.
Last, but not least, we would like to share the opportunities and our experiences with applying wireless sensors in on and off street parking applications to optimize parking guidance, parking enforcement and traffic management.
From Nedap Security Management’s standpoint, access control hardware are becoming more and more commodity. Following this development you can conclude that, in the near future, the difference can only be made by software.
As the market embraces this philosophy more and more, we’d like to show the benefits of a software-based security management platform at Intersec 2014.
One of these benefits is that software components are able to integrate sensors such as card readers, video cameras, intrusion detectors and intercom stations on controller level. This is not only functional and efficient, but saves huge installation costs for servers, integration and maintenance.
Where can visitors find you at Intersec 2014?
Nedap will be located at stand no. SA-318C in Hall SA.
