DuPont, a US-based science and engineering company, showcased its latest safety & protection line at the Civil Defence Training Centre in Dubai Academic City.
Part of its demonstration included a live test of Tychem ThermoPro, a single layer, triple-threat protection garment under the Nomex product line.
Designed for protection from liquid-chemical jet, flash fire and electrical arcs, the garment was put to the test resisting more than 175 chemical challenges. This included 19 chemicals found in the ASTM F1001 list, a standard that evaluates the effectives of protective clothing. The live test also showcased protection from an arc discharge and flash burn injury.
Primarily designed for use by firefighters and electricians, DuPont’s Tychem fabric will likely see additional traction in the chemical and pharmaceutical, foundry, humanitarian and oil and gas sectors. The garment boasts effective resistance of up to 480 minutes and is certified to the National Fire Proection Association’s (NFPA) standards.
“The launch of our cutting-edge garment DuPont Tychem ThermoPro received an overwhelming response in Dubai, demonstrating our endless commitment to provide advanced solutions for fire and chemical hazards,” commented Maher Emil, regional manager of DuPont Protection Technologies.
Fire safety has become an increasingly important topic within facilities management, with several FM providers stepping up their efforts to enact effective health and safety programs. This had led to increased collaboration with the Civil Defence with participation in annual drills and seminars on emergency protocols, as well as the introduction of threat protection equipment, such as DuPont’s Nomex line.
