Daman, the national health insurance company, recently distributed over 2,000 Emirates ID card readers to key medical centres in the UAE.
Provided by the Emirates Identity Authority, the card readers will allow members, which include Thiqa cardholders, to identify themselves as insured members at participating hospitals.
Supporting the government’s efforts towards introducing smart services, the distribution agreement also include plans to develop an advanced ID management system in the UAE.
In day-to-day operation, the presence of the card readers will strengthen operational efficiency of public and private institutions. It will also cut time on administrative protocols and provides the benefit of utilisation of advanced digital and electronic applications.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Michael Bitzer, Chief Executive Officer at Daman said: “Adopting the Emirates ID as an alternative for insurance cards is a major step towards simplifying the process of accessing medical services.”
He added: “We value Emirates Identity Authority’s efforts and support through which we are able to show our commitment towards providing great value to members as well as enhancing the level of health insurance services overall.”
Though the service has been shared with select medical facilities so far in the UAE, Daman is aiming to launch the service across all facilities early next year.
