The Arabian Canal will be the world\'s largest man-made canal, as 75 km long. The canal is 75 km long with up to 150 metres wide and 6 metres deep. The canal will snake from Dubai Waterfront in Jebel Ali and pass to the east of the Dubai World Central development before turning back towards the Palm Jumeirah.

The Arabian Canal earthworks had been split into 10 different packages. Tristar Transport & Contracting had been appointed as a main contractor for the first phase of Arabian Canal earthworks in September 2008. The contract includes removing more than 200 million cubic metres of earth. Works on phase 1 began in October 2008 for three years. In late of October 2008, Limitless invited construction companies to bid for the second phase of earthworks on Arabian Canal. Tender closing date for the second phase is 24th December 2008. The phase 2 contract is expected to be awarded in first quarter of 2009.
