Masdar City is a new 6 million square metre sustainable development that uses the traditional planning principals of a walled city, together with existing technologies, to achieve a carbon neutral and zero waste community. The city is located in east-south of Abu Dhabi, beside Abu Dhabi International Airport. The city will be home to 50,000 people and 1,500 businesses, primarily commercial and manufacturing facilities specialising in environmentally-friendly products. The city will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology.
Masdar City designed by Foster + Partners. Phase 1 of the project is under construction which includes construction of Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) Masdar City will be developed in 7 phases and expected to be completed in 2022.
