Indian contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) order to install 12 flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) units at NTPC’s Vindhyachal power plant in India's Madhya Pradesh state, with project completion to make the plant the home of the most number of FGD systems at a single site in the Asian country.

L&T's power business will deliver the contract.

The contract is part of the Indian Government’s recently implemented mandate for all thermal power plants to have FGD systems in place, which was issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change to cut sulphur dioxide emissions.

L&T said in a statement that the contract followed an order received for Stages 3 and 4 of the NTPC programme in September 2018.
