Emirati singer Hussain Al Jassmi – revealed as the culture ambassador for Expo 2020 Dubai – will mark the beginning of the 'One Year to Go' countdown for Expo 2020 Dubai, along with US singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, and Indian Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor, at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai, from 5-8pm on 20 October 2019.

The countdown moment, set at 8:20pm – correlating with the kick-off of the 173-day expo – will be celebrated simultaneously at Louvre Abu Dhabi, Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah, Ajman Museum, Umm Al Quwain Corniche, Al Qawasim Corniche in Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah Fort.

Approximately 25 million visitors are expected to visit Expo 2020 Dubai, with more than 70% expected to visit from outside the UAE.

A September 2019 Construction Week report confirmed that the final piece of Al Wasl Plaza – designed by US-based architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture – had been lifted into place.

Recent photographs released by the World Expo’s information system show construction progress on the flagship Al Wasl dome and Thematic Pavilions within the 4.38km2 site.
