Khatib & Alami to issue tender for $4.4bn Fahaheel Road Expressway
EXCLUSIVE: The firm’s Kuwait head tells Construction Week that work on the road project's designs to complete by Dec 2019
Construction and engineering giant Khatib & Alami told Construction Week that the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation is set to issue a tender for the Fahaheel Road Expressway development in 2020, and will complete the designs of the project by December 2019
Speaking at Construction Week’s Leaders in Construction Summit Kuwait 2019, Khatib & Alami’s chief for its Kuwait office, Shiraz Basma, told Construction Week that construction will be completed on the project within three to four years, and Kuwait’s 2035 mandate will drive transport infrastructure for the country.
Khatib & Alami will act as the consultant in association with local engineering consultant Kuwait Technical Consulting Bureau for the project, which will involve the expansion of the 38km road into a multi-lane expressway in Al Ahmadi, Kuwait.
Details of the development include constructing u-turns, and increasing the number of exits to ease traffic jam. The expansion will convert the road to four lanes instead of three, which will include lanes that will link to residential areas.
“The project’s construction value is $4.4bn and will be tendered out either as a design build for international contractors or into three packages in parallel. Each construction package will be around $987,000,” said Basma.
“We need around nine months to one year to have the prequalification and tender completed.”
