The bridges leading to the entry and exit points of the Dubai Mall’s Zabeel multi-storey parking building is nearing completion, with the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) — which is working alongside Mohamed Alabbar-led Emaar Properties on the project — set to open the bridges on 29 October 2019.

According to UAE’s state-owned news agency, Wam, another bridge extending from the parking building towards Sheikh Zayed Road and Jumeirah will also be opened, in addition to a footbridge linking the parking with the mall.

RTA said that the contractor is currently carrying final works on the bridges linking the upper level of the Financial Centre Street and Dubai Mall’s cinema parking.

Speaking about the scope of work for the bridges project, director-general and chairman of the board of directors of RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, said: “The project undertaken by RTA in collaboration with Emaar Properties covers the construction of bridges extending 1,860m with width varying between 4.5 and 10m.”

“Works also include a footbridge measuring 210x17m and a vehicles bridge measuring 360x9m linking Zabeel parking building with Dubai Mall in addition to lighting and utility works,” Al Tayer added.

Meanwhile, works also include the bridge linking Al Khail Road and the Financial Centre Street, extending from the interchange of Ras Al Khor and Al Khail Roads to the Financial Centre Street.

Additionally, works for a 1,270m-long and 11 to 15m-wide bridge built on single columns crossing over Dubai Water Canal were also implemented.

The project will help reduce bottlenecks in the junctions to Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, increasing the capacity of the road to 4,500 vehicles per hour, during peak times.
