Abu Dhabi Ports breaks ground on Marsa Mina waterfront destination
Located next to the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, construction on the project is scheduled to complete by Q1 2020
Ground has been broken on Abu Dhabi Ports’ Marsa Mina waterfront project, — located next to the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal — construction on which is expected to complete and be opened to the public in Q1 2020.
The start of construction was marked with the unloading of the first container to be used for the project, which aims to be a leisure destination for tourists arriving by ship, with offerings including food trucks, retail concepts, family entertainment, playgrounds, open seating areas, as well as an area allocated to attract entrepreneurs with interesting business ideas.
Marsa Mina’s retail units will be constructed from recycled shipping containers. The project, when completed, will also display artwork created from maritime equipment, giving it the feel of a maritime museum.
Commenting on the start of construction, chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Ports, Mohamed Al Shamisi, said: “The introduction of Marsa Mina will not only draw increased footfall from both international visitors and members of the local community but will widen the exposure of Abu Dhabi’s cruise culture to the global market. The plethora of attractions available onsite will deliver an unforgettable experience for all those who visit the new waterfront.”
Al Shamisi added: “To promote the growth of small and medium enterprises in Abu Dhabi, we have set aside development space in Marsa Mina dedicated to entrepreneurs and start-ups. Businesses who are keen on establishing themselves in the port can expect a streamlined registration process.”
