The 262.5MW wind farm is the first renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) project of its kind in Egypt

Egyptian contractor Orascom Construction announced that it has completed the construction and commissioning of the Ras Ghareb Wind Energy project, stating that the project was fully connected to the grid and ready for commercial operation on 31 October – 45 days ahead of schedule.

With a power generation capacity of 262.5MW, the wind farm is the first renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) project of its kind in Egypt.

Orascom completed all 125 wind turbine foundations 73 days ahead of schedule and energized the substation 31 days ahead of schedule, which helped accelerate the overall speed of the project, demonstrating the contractor's ability to combine fast-track construction, financing expertise, and international collaborations.

Commenting on the completion of construction, chief executive officer of Orascom Construction, Osama Bishai, said: “We are very pleased to complete Egypt’s largest renewable energy project significantly ahead of schedule and we remain focused on expanding our portfolio of recurring income projects.”
