Empower approves Dubai's Barsha Heights $46m district cooling plant
The district cooling plant will replace the three temporary plants currently operating in the area
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has revealed that it has commissioned its latest district cooling plant in Dubai’s Barsha Heights worth $46m (AED 169m).
The construction contract for the district cooling plant was agreed in December 2018 and will replace the three temporary plants currently operating in Barsha Heights.
The move is part of Empower’s plans to develop its infrastructure, improve district cooling services and to increase the operational efficiency across its district cooling plants.
Empower said that the plant is designed according to “the highest international standards” in terms of construction and building design, and took into account the criteria of sustainable green buildings, and modern urban development in Dubai.
“Commissioning of this new district cooling plant in the Barsha Heights area, which is witnessing a huge real estate and urban boom, contributes to raising the operational efficiency and quality of services provided to our customers,” said Empower CEO Ahmad Bin Shafar.
“We are always working to increase the number of district cooling plants across Dubai, as part of our strategic plan to keep the pace with the remarkable population growth, which leads to a high demand for cooling services.”
Looking ahead to 2020, Bin Shafar added that it would expand its pipe network for projects in Dubai, as well as the development of further permanent district cooling plants.
