Sharjah Ruler inks deal to establish Academy for Sports Sciences

Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Sharjah, HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has inked an agreement to establish the Sharjah Academy for Sports Sciences and Outstanding Performance (SASSOP) in Kalba in cooperation with the University of Exeter, UK.

The Sharjah Ruler reviewed the centre’s scheme, including each of its sections and specialised sports facilities, such as stadiums, indoor sports halls, and other support services.

HH Dr Sheikh Sultan also directed that the academy be established promptly, comprising modern equipment, laboratories, and sports facilities that are built to modern international specifications.

The academy aims to train and develop elite athletes in line with the advanced sciences, and under the guidance of global experts, in addition to offering educational programmes to qualify people in fields related to sports and training, according to state-run news agency, Wam.
