Nesma & Partners, Almabani ink contracts for TRSDC airport delivery
TRSDC has awarded its largest value contract to date for the delivery of airport airside infrastructure
Saudi Arabia contractors Nesma & Partners and Almabani have been awarded contracts for the construction of airside infrastructure works at The Red Sea Development Company’s (TRSDC) international airport project.
Claiming to be the largest value contract to date for TRSDC, the contract was awarded following a competitive tendering process to a joint venture between Saudi contractors Nesma & Partners Contracting Co. Ltd and Almabani General Contractors.
The contract will entail the construction of airside infrastructure works, including the design and building of a Code F runway 3,700m, Code B seaplane runway, parallel & link taxiways and pavement works, aeronautical navigational aids, aerodrome ground lighting, airside utilities, helipads, roads and associated buildings.
The airport is set to open by 2022 and is estimated to welcome around one million passengers per year.
In line with the company’s sustainability goals, the entire infrastructure of The Red Sea Project, including its transport network, will be powered by 100% renewable energy.
The airport design, which is being carried out by Foster + Partner, focuses on using shaded areas and natural ventilation to minimise the reliance on air conditioning.
Despite not being able to disclose the figure of TRSDC's largest contract to date, the developer told Construction Week that by the end of H1 2020, they had awarded $1.09bn (SAR 4.1bn) of contracts.
TRSDC CEO John Pagano said by awarding our largest contract to date, they have demonstrated its ongoing commitment to creating opportunities within the Saudi Arabian construction sector.
“Turning our vision into reality will require us to work with organisations that share our values and our uncompromising commitment in enhancing the environment,” said Pagano.
“This was a key consideration when appointing Nesma & Partners Contracting Co. Ltd and Almabani General Contractors. Both our partners have impressive expertise in delivering airside infrastructure, coupled with both local and international experience.”
