Construction of Oman's Wadi Ghamada Dam project 67% complete

Oman’s Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has revealed that construction works on the Wadi Ghamada underground recharge dam project in the Wilayat of Bukha in the Musandam Governorate has reached the 67% completion milestone.

Excavation works for the dam, as well as works on the spillway and the calming basin have reached 99% completion, while 53% of the concrete works have been completed.

All construction works are expected to be completed by Q1 2021, according to the state-run Oman News Agency.

The dam is being constructed to protect residential communities from floods; feed the underground reservoir to develop water resources in the Ghamda area; and to feed the aquifer in the villages of Bakha.

The Ministry also aims to enhance the maximum utilisation of rainwater and supply underground wells with water.
