Expo 2020 Dubai’s Ukraine Pavilion will espouse the values of a smart community, featuring single-charge e-bikes and a 3D printer for building materials and solar blinds.
The Eastern European nation, according to the expo’s organisers, will divide its pavilion into three zones covering smart living, thinking, and experiences that will support its investigation of “solutions to solve humanity’s problems through collaboration, creativity, and common sense”.
With the theme of ‘Smart Ukraine: Connecting Dots’, the nation is said to be “incorporating the three Expo 2020 Dubai subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability” into its structure for the World Expo, which opens its doors on 20 October next year.
Ukraine’s pavilion, like the recently announced Belarus Pavilion, will be located within Expo 2020 Dubai’s Opportunity District, and focus on the country’s “cultural heritage and innovative spirit”.
The experience seeks to challenge visitors to reassess their approach to modern life.
On 6 December, 2018, a coordinating committee held a meeting chaired by Ukraine’s First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Stepan Kubiv, to discuss the country’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.
At the time, it was revealed that Ukraine would construct its pavilion on a site spanning 1,652m2, with its structure expected to span 1,035m2. Kubiv said during the meeting that Ukraine’s pavilion should “clearly show that [the country] and its products are modern and high-tech”. He added that themes such as Ukraine’s “systemic [information technology solutions”, and offerings for the energy, agriculture, and small- and medium-sized businesses would be communicated through the national pavilion at the World Expo.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade said at the time that three stages of open tenders would be held for the pavilion, with the scope of work set to include construction, internal arrangement, provision of exhibits during 2020, maintenance, and post-event dismantling.
Among the exhibits planned for the Ukraine Pavilion are an e-bike that can travel 380km after a single charge, and a 3D printer for ceramics and solar blinds that are capable of generating energy.
Other features expected at the pavilion include “abundant nature” and “picturesque flora” within the structure, and entertainment options such as fashion shows, topical seminars, national cuisine showcases, and creative performances.
Commenting on the Ukraine Pavilion in a statement, Expo 2020 Dubai said: “Ultimately, the experience seeks to challenge visitors to reassess their approach to modern life, while also highlighting Ukraine as a progressive nation with plenty of possibilities for business and tourism.”
