Construction is advancing at pace on the 4.6ha Sheikha Fatima Park in Abu Dhabi, with developer Imkan expecting to complete the public realm project before the end of 2019.

The main contractor, Al Fara’a Engineering, is busy redeveloping the mixed-use park, which Imkan said would likely help to promote an active lifestyle in the UAE capital.

The revitalised park will include an adventure zone, a separate section devoted to women and children, shops and cafés, and 350 parking spaces. Imkan is also developing the park to ensure it is accessible for people with disabilities.

At the centre of the project is a mission to improve mental health and physical activity, which World Health Organisation reports say can be achieved through parks with green spaces.

Sheikha Fatima Park in Abu Dhabi will encourage a sustainable and active lifestyle.

Imkan has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Abu Dhabi City Municipality to support sustainable growth in the UAE capital. The development firm’s chief executive officer, Walid El-Hindi, said the agreement with the government would help it transform urban communities in Abu Dhabi.

“The government’s vision and insights are at the core of what we stand for, and it is a great honour to be able to combine our ideas, take concepts from the drawing board, and use them as a catalyst to transform inner-city communities,” he said.

Alongside main contractor Al Fara’a Engineering, Arcadis is involved as the project’s consultancy, while Cracknell Landscaping is carrying out design work.
