Kuwait’s Directorate General for Civil Aviation handed a contract to German company Obermeyer to deliver consultancy services to “overhaul Kuwait International Airport (KWI).

Part of a long-term strategy to spur greater development at KWI, the contract will see Obermeyer managing the ongoing and planned ventures under way at the Kuwait airport.

DGCA director-general, Yousef Al-Fozan, told Kuwait’s state-held news agency, Kuna, that the deal is valid for five years.

Among the projects covered under the contract will be construction plans for KWI’s third runway, as well as the airport’s new “observation post”.

Obermeyer may also be involved with future plans such as the revamp of KWI’s western runway, and the construction of three runways, two observation towers, and five passenger terminals. The latter will be explored after work on KWI’s Terminal 2 has completed.

The German company will also support the upgrade of work procedures for airport management, and technical guidelines for aviation operations.

DGCA chairman Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah signed the contract during a session attended by the German Ambassador to Kuwait.
