Kone to deliver 120 mobility units for $1.2bn Reem Mall in Abu Dhabi
Finnish firm contracted in Q3 2018 to provide elevators, escalators, and inclined autowalks for upcoming retail project
Kone has won an order to equip Abu Dhabi's under-construction $1.2bn (AED4.4bn) Reem Mall with elevators and escalators.
Reem Mall, one of the GCC's top entertainment projects of 2019, is being developed by Al Farwaniya Property Developments, a partnership between Kuwait-headquartered Agility; Agility affiliate United Projects for Aviation Services Company; and National Real Estate Company.
Under its contract, Kone will install 50 Mono Space elevators, 60 units of the Travel Master 110 escalator's models, and 10 units of the Travel Master 115 inclined autowalks.
Kone’s equipment monitoring system, Kone E-Link, will be installed to inspect the performance of mobility across the retail property.
In a statement, Kone said it booked the order in Q3 2018.
Commenting on the order win, Pierre Liautaud, executive vice president for Kone South Europe, Middle East, and Africa, said: “It is very exciting to contribute to the creation of this new urban hub in the heart of new Abu Dhabi.’’
Itinera Ghantoot, an Emirati-Italian joint venture, is the main contractor of Reem Mall, with Mace involved as project management consultant, and Dewan Architects & Engineers working as technical architect. Callison RTKL is Reem Mall's design architect.
In December 2018, Dubai’s Drake and Scull International won a $163.4m (AED600m) contract to deliver mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works for the mall, which is due to open in 2020.
