Saudi Arabia's Tadawul-listed Middle East Healthcare Company, owner and operator of the Saudi German Hospitals chain, has revealed construction developments on its upcoming Saudi German Hospital Dammam, which is due to open this June.

In a missive dated 3 April, 2019, the company confirmed that construction work on the hospital is 84% complete and the facility is on track to open in June 2019.

International Hospital Construction Company is building the hospital under a $90m (SAR336m) deal. The company began construction work on the Dammam healthcare facility on 7 December, 2016 and expects to complete it by 6 June, 2019.

The Dammam facility will be Middle East Healthcare Company’s sixth hospital in the kingdom, which owns five hospitals each in Riyadh, Jeddah, Madinah, Aseer, and Hail.

In the region, Saudi German Hospital has branches in Dubai, Sharjah, and Cairo, according to the company’s website.

A 150-bed multi-speciality hospital, Saudi German Dammam has a built-up area of 3ha. When operational, the hospital will offer inpatient and outpatient facilities, critical care units, operating rooms, and laboratories, in addition to other support functions.

According to research firm Colliers International’s Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Healthcare Overview 2018 report, a steady increase in population – which according to World Bank estimates will grow by 1.02% annually on an average reaching 45.1 billion by 2050 – is expected to fuel the demand for healthcare services in the kingdom.

In the kingdom, the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Medical Complexes project is currently under way, and this includes the Riyadh Security Forces Medical City and Jeddah Security Forces Medical City, which Construction Week reported in February 2019 are respectively complete 87% and 74%.
