International hotel-chain Marriott's first JW Marriott-branded property in Oman will open in Q3 2019, developer Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) revealed during a site tour to review the facility's construction progress.

The 304-key five-star hotel is located within the 45ha Madinat Al Irfan mixed-use development, which is developed by UAE-headquartered Majid Al Futtaim, under a joint venture agreement signed with Omran in November 2018.

The first JW Marriott in the sultanate will have Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), currently in its final developmental phase, as its neighbour.

During a site visit on 31 March, HE Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, chairman of Omran; Peter Walichnowski, the company’s chief executive officer; and various other senior officials were briefed on hotel's construction progress by Eng Said Al Qasmi, senior vice president for the OCEC project at Omran.

Commenting on the hotel, Walichnowski said: “The addition of the JW Marriott hotel to Omran’s portfolio, a global brand icon in hospitality, is another milestone that will further contribute to the competitiveness of OCEC as full-fledged events destination in the region."

According to Al Sunaidy, chairman of Omran, hotel construction projects within Madinat Al Irfan will play a significant role in drawing delegations, businessmen, and investors to the masterplanned community, as well as open more job opportunities for Omanis and SMEs.

Operated by global hotel operator Marriott International, the latest addition to Madinat Al Irfan complies with Leed certification requirements, according to Oman's state news agency, ONA
