Artificial intelligence (AI) can help improve the productivity of district cooling companies, according to the UAE’s Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), which has adopted the technology for its under-construction plant in Dubai's Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC).

The 50,000 RT plant will use AI to monitor and adjust the inflow and outflow of chilled water.

Due to complete in Q4 2019, the plant will feature a system that has the capacity to read data from more than two million cooling towers, chillers, and transformers.

Commenting on the role that AI can play in the district cooling sector, Empower's chief executive officer, Ahmad Bin Shafar, said: "We always strive to develop and achieve excellence in the field of district cooling through the use of AI technology.

“AI contributes to reducing the annual operating costs of companies in the district cooling sector, as well as enhancing efficiency in facilities," he added, according to UAE state news agency, Wam.
