Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad Esco) will install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roofs of 5,000 homes owned by UAE nationals, having completed site surveys and the onboarding of contractors for the project, which is due to complete in November 2019.

In a statement, Etihad Esco, a venture established by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) in 2013, said it was currently working on outreach activities, mockups, and material procurement for the project.

Dewa had announced in February 2019 that one-tenth of Emirati homes in Dubai would be fitted out with solar PV panels this year.

Etihad Esco's contractors will install 65,000 PV panels; 295,000 LED lights; and 50,000 water savers at Emirati villas as part of the project.

The PV panels will help save 31,102 megawatt-hours of energy, and retrofits of lighting and water systems are expected to further drive benefits.

Commenting on the project's progress, Etihad Esco's chief executive officer, Ali Al Jassim, said: “I’m glad the installation of PV solar panels over the roofs of Emirati homes in Dubai is seeing seamless progress.

"We consider it our privilege to enhance Dubai’s position as a leading model for energy efficiency.”
