Muscat's Water-Front project awarded Leed Gold certification
S&T Group statement reveals pollution-prevention and waste management plans supported receipt of credentials
Oman's S&T Group announced that its mixed-use Water-Front project in Muscat had been awarded Leed Gold certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for the Core and Shell development rating, achieving 74 points.
The Leed Core and Shell rating system is designed to meet the needs of commercial property development projects, and addresses the sustainability of base building elements, such as site selection, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, fire protection systems, and the building envelope.
Key Leed certification features of Water-Front include construction pollution-prevention plans, construction waste management programmes, recycled and locally sourced materials, and certified wood-design and procurement, the company said in a statement.
Other sustainable features of the project recognised by the USGBC included water-efficient indoor flush and flow fixtures, elimination of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), energy-efficient and eco-friendly equipment, improved façade design, daylight control and occupancy sensors, and a demand-controlled ventilation system.
Commenting on the development, vice chairman of S&T Group, Waqas Al Adawi, said the Leed certification recognised the company's “commitment to creating a sustainable environment and implementing green practices”.
