Spain's Acciona Producciones y Diseño (APD) was commissioned to work on the technical development and museographic implementation for the visitor experience aspects of Qasr Al Watn, a building within the compound of Abu Dhabi’s Presidential Palace.

APD’s work covered 12,000m2 and focused on adapting the main halls for visitors, three of which have a museographic element.

The company built four 6m cubes within the main hall of the building, and also installed graphics elements, audio-visual equipment, and display cases.

APD also installed a platform for visitors to provide improved access to Qasr Al Watn and to ensure its preservation.

The Spanish company said its key challenge for the project was to ensure every element, including the 6m cubes, were mobile.

This was ensured through the development of an air-flotation system that allowed them to be moved without damaging the Presidential Palace’s marble floor.

For the removable platforms, APD used staging tech, supplying lightweight aluminium structures that can be assembled and disassembled by hand without any need for tools.

APD also created modular and removable designs for other elements such as display cases, structures for projectors and platforms, and designs of the storage cases placing all pieces.

The Qasr Al Watan Visitor Experience features historical documents, artefacts, Presidential Gifts, and rare manuscripts that highlight the Arab World’s contributions to science, arts, humanities, and literature, APD said in a statement.
