Bahrain's $1.2bn Seef District-Prince Salman City power line opens
ALS Korea manufactured, supplied, and co-installed the electric cables required for the critical 12km project
Chief executive officer of Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (Ewa), Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, has inaugurated a 220 kV power line that spans 12km to link Seef District and Prince Salman City, with ALS Korea manufacturing, supplying, and co-installing the cables alongside several Bahraini contractors under a $1.2bn (BHD473m) package supervised by Irish International Electric Co.
The project was built to “develop and expand electricity transmission in Bahrain as per the guidelines of the wise leadership led by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa”, state news agency, BNA, reported.
Al Khalifa said the project would secure electrical connection requirements between Bahrain’s power network and the GCC's grid, and added to a long-term package aimed at connecting 15 substations of 220kV and 48 others of 66kV through high-voltage cables.
He added that the growing network would serve the high demand for power during peak periods and in the summer months.
