Expo 2020 Dubai's Al Wasl Plaza dome to top out by end-August 2019
EXCLUSIVE: Progress on Al Wasl Plaza's dome, a 360° projection surface, is imminent, Expo 2020 Dubai tells CW
Expo 2020 Dubai told Construction Week that its Al Wasl Plaza dome would top out by the end of August 2019, with the progress on the steel trellis structure that will act as a 360° projection surface – viewable from both inside and outside – marking the next “construction milestone” for the UAE megaproject.
Al Wasl Plaza will be central to Expo 2020 Dubai's three Thematic Districts – Opportunity, Sustainability, and Mobility – on which construction was completed in May 2019.
Constructed by UAE-based company AF Construction – formerly known as Al Futtaim Carillion – the value of the contract to develop Expo 2020 Dubai’s Thematic Districts was $599m (AED2.2bn), according to officials behind the next World Expo.
ASGC built Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sustainability Pavilion, while ALEC built the Mobility Pavilion, with local real estate giant Emaar acting as development manager for both structures.
AF Construction – which also worked on the public walkways, retail, and food and beverage aspects of the Thematic Districts as part of its contract – is listed by ProTenders as Opportunity Pavilion’s general contractor.
More than 100 million work hours have been completed to date at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, where 40,000 workers were present at the peak of construction as of Q2 2019.
