Germany's Fraunhofer to open research base at Sharjah's SRTI Park
European research organisation to 'have a presence' at Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park
Germany-headquartered European research organisation Fraunhofer Society has confirmed it will “have a presence” at Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTI Park).
In a statement, SRTI Park said it would launch a research and development centre at SRTI Park in Sharjah, which would be open to university researchers and automotive, aviation, smart manufacturing, and water manufacturing entities from the public and private sectors.
The centre will also provide technical consulting expertise for SRTI Park, and offer companies in the UAE the opportunity to initiate research and development projects from selected fields.
An agreement to confirm Fraunhofer’s presence was signed by SRTI Park’s chief executive officer, HE Hussain Al Mahmoudi, and officials from the German entity.
Scientists and researchers from Fraunhofer’s headquarters in Germany have already held meetings with officials from SRTI Park, and from UAE entities specialising in water technology, desalination, energy, and sustainability.
Commenting on Fraunhofer’s agreement, Al Mahmoudi said: “Keeping in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, the Fraunhofer concept will maintain the Emirate's outstanding scientific reach and its relevance to international competition.”
“Our goal is to attract distinguished research institutions and international researchers who have made a significant difference in their field to work together and develop a system that is capable of global competition and serves the scientific research in the region.
“Fraunhofer’s researchers focus on future technologies. Today’s research is opening the door for future achievements and this is what we are looking for at SRTI Park.”
