Repdo issues RFPs for 1.47GW Round 2 of Saudi Arabia's NREP
Details revealed of bid submission timelines for six-project Round 2 of Saudi's National Renewable Energy Programme
Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Repdo), part of of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources, has issued requests for proposals (RFPs) for two projects making up Category A within Round 2 of the kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), which includes six solar power schemes with a total photovoltaic capacity of 1.47 GW.
RFPs for four Category B projects was issued on 18 July, and in June 2019, Repdo had qualified 60 companies, including 28 from Saudi Arabia, to issue RFPs as managing member, technical member, or under its newly created category of ‘local managing member’, which is expected to spur local and international partnerships whilst forming bidding consortiums.
All projects tendered by Repdo are issued under the independent power producer scheme and must be backed by 20-year to 25-year power purchase agreements.
Round 2's Category A includes smaller projects which require consortium members to partner with at least one local managing member.
Projects within Round 2 will carry a minimum requirement of 17% local content as calculated by the mechanisms defined by Saudi Arabia's Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, which aims to raise the contribution of products and services in the national economy.
The six projects being tendered within Round 2 represent the first half of Repdo’s 2019 project development pipeline, with another six projects to be tendered by Q4 2019 as part of NREP's Round 3.
Proposals for Round 2's Category B projects must be submitted by 18 November, 2019, and the deadline for Category A projects is 3 December, 2019.
Results of all bids will be live-streamed on Repdo’s eProcurement portal: www.powersaudiarabia.com.sa, according to a report by Saudi Arabia's news agency, SPA.
