UAE-based European real estate property developer, Kleindienst Group, has banned microplastics on The Heart of Europe project in Dubai.
The developer said that all homeowners and tourists visiting the islands, hotels, restaurants and bars operating on the resort will also be banned from using plastic products.
Among the sustainability initiatives adopted for The Heart of Europe, Kleindienst has also been recycling water in a bid to support renewable energy, plating 100,000 corals every year, as well as contributing to the breeding of 514 ocean species native to the UAE waters.
As part of the initiative, Kleindienst will use latest technologies in microplastics capturing and filtration to create a zero per cent discharge environment. Additionally, its resort will filter and process the islands’ water at a dedicated site, while the islands have been built with filtration layers to capture microplastics.
Founder and chairman of Kleindienst Group, Josef Kleindienst, said: “Throughout The Heart of Europe’s construction, we have been committed to building a project that lasts for many generations to come.”
He added: “As we get ever closer to opening the resort to the public, we are making a watertight promise that our teams will do all they can to ensure no microplastics enter the oceans around The Heart of Europe.”
The first homes on The Heart of Europe have been scheduled to be handed over by 2019 and the whole project will be delivered by 2021.
