Amman Municipality has noted 80% construction progress on a bridge that is being built as part of its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network to connect the city’s Istiklal Street to the BRT station building in Mahatta, with building work on the concrete bridge and its pillars now completed.

In an Arabic-language statement, the municipality quoted project manager Hani Al-Abadi as saying that work commencement on the BRT routes on Istiklal Street was imminent, and would include the installation of traffic lights on the street.

According to the statement, construction work on the project is expected to be completed within 75 days, and work to build sidewalks is also under way.

Al-Abadi added that the BRT route would begin from the main station in Sweileh and will continue towards Queen Rania Al Abdullah Street to Sports City roundabout and move left towards Al Shaheed Street, passing through Al Mashaghel tunnel and merge into Tareq area intersection in Tabarbour.

From the Tareq intersection, the bus route extends to Prince Hamza Street, which will later be connected to Istiklal Street’s bridge, Al-Abadi added.
