UAE-based Desert Golf, part of landscape firm Desert Group, announced it had completed the revamp of the 18-hole Arabian Ranches Golf Club course two weeks ahead of schedule, with the development set to open in October 2019.

The golf course was closed to carry out the renovation activities, which included surveying the 18 greens, excavation, and shaping the subgrade of all greens to match with final levels.

The project was carried out owing to the growth of foreign grasses, which had affected the uniformity, appearance, and smoothness of the greens at the golf course, the company said in a statement.

Desert Group used United States Golf Association-approved (USGA) greensmix to meet the original design contours of the golf course and planted the greens with Platinum TE Paspalum sprigs, a type of turfgrass that is environmentally sustainable and salt-tolerant.

Trufgrass was shipped by air from the US.

Commenting on the project, general manager of Desert Golf, Rory Hurchison, said: “The renovations were aimed at elevating the golfing experience and the Arabian Ranches golf course is now looking pristine complete with USGA-approved greensmix.”
