Empower awards $9m contracts for Dubai Studio City network extension
Latest Empower contracts cover Phases 2 and 3 of the district cooling pipe network extension project, spanning 5km
The UAE’s Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has awarded contracts valued at $9m (AED33m) to expand its district cooling pipe network in Dubai Studio City, with the contracts representing Phases 2 and 3 of the 5km project.
According to UAE news agency, Wam, the project is part of Empower’s infrastructure development plan aimed at boosting demand for district cooling within the commercial and residential sector in Dubai.
Phase 2 of the project includes a 1.5km pipeline extension, which will be completed by Q4 2019.
Another extension covering 3.5km will be completed by Q2 2020 as Phase 3 of the project.
Empower said the newly extended network would be connected to a semi-permanent plant in the same area.
Commenting on the development, chief executive officer of Empower, Ahmad bin Shafar, said: "The pipe network for providing district cooling services is expanding year after year, especially with the booming of real estate projects in Dubai.
“The extension will be made by using the latest technologies, which will help for uninterrupted delivery of services to customers."
