Construction has started on a 380KV power substation at the Jazan Economic City in the south western region of Saudi Arabia.

The $83m (SAR311m) project will be built over a two year period and will be linked to the high voltage Alshigaig-Alkadmi line. It will feed power to the city and its steel works until a 2400MW power plant, also being built in the city, is brought online in 2015.

The substation will then be converted in to a linkage station where it will be able to supply KSA’s national grid with electricity generated by the 2400MW Jazan power plant.

The substation project is split in to two separate projects: the 19km power lines that will connect the substation to the Alshigaig-Alkadmi line which is being undertaken by National Contractions Co, and the substation construction, which is being built by Alfanar Co.
