Edinburgh-based Sutherland Hussey has beaten off competition from Woods Bagot and German firm Gerkan Marg & Partners (GMP) to design Beijing’s third tallest building, the Tongzhou Tower.

Reaching a height of 288m, the mixed-use tower will contain residential, retail, offices, a hotel and a sky garden with views across the city.

Chinese architects Pansolution and Hong Kong based Y Design will also be involved in the design of the tower, which is set to be completed in 2013.
