Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works has approved a $98.1m contract to build a sanitation line in the south-western city of Al Jahra in the Gulf Arab state, it was announced on Wednesday.
Dr Fadel Safar Ali Safar, also the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, signed the contract for the establishment and maintenance of a main sanitation line running through the provincial capital city.
The contract also includes the establishment of a new deep line which will connect the Jahra pumping station, which is currently under construction.
It will also remove the current pumping stations, as well as the Jahra plant for water treatment, the Kuwait News Agency reported.
The contract will also include building new sanitation and linkage lines in the Al Jahra governorate, which will link up with a 29 kilometre main line in the region.
The diameters for the pipeline range from 300mm to 2,200mm, and it reaches depths of up to 28 metres underground.
Safar also signed an agreement to supervise the establishment and maintenance of the same network, at a cost of $2.7m.
