Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that it opened a 132/33kV main substation in Al Lusaily in January.
The substation, which was built at a cost of $72m, has a transformation capacity of 150MVA. The substation was built with 132kV ground cables to meet an increasing demand for electricity.
“DEWA’s projects are part of its strategy to enhance the efficiency of its power grid, to meet growing demand for DEWA’s services and implement vital projects, especially in the field of infrastructure,” said DEWA’s managing director and CEO H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
He said that the substation will develop the capacity of DEWA’s power transmission grids to Al Lusaily, Murgham, Murqab, Al Faqaa, Al Minhad, and Dubai International Endurance City.
“Ground cables of 132kV spanning 28km now connect Al Lusaily substation to the 132/11kV main substation at Tejara Town in Dubai Land to enhance efficiency, reliability and ensure uninterrupted supply to all customers at all times,” he said.
The substations, he said, adopt cutting-edge digital technologies which help improve their efficiency.
Al Tayer added that there are 33 132kV substations currently under construction.
