RED Engineering has won Innovation of the Year at the MEP Middle East Awards 2013 in Fairmont The Palm Hotel in Dubai for its “Seawater Cooling” design.
The consultant won the award, which was sponsored by ALEMCO, ahead of category finalists Trans Gulf, Ramboll, TROX and TA Hydronics.
The judges praised RED’s entry for its “detailed description and methodology” which “can be implemented with great savings in the long run”, and described it as “a system that is simply in a league of its own”.
RED technical director, Paul Allen, said the award was testament to the detailed effort efficient solution the firm has put together.
“It’s a bit of a surprise to win the award but we put some effort into putting together a detailed solution which is energy efficient, saves water, saves electricity, and saves space,” he said.
“It costs a little bit more upfront for the chiller plants but the long-term benefits will outweigh that.”
Trans Gulf was highly commended in the category for its Gurukul Initiative which the judges said offered “great potential to lift young people out of poverty and should be lauded as an innovative way to make a difference to a young person’s life”.
An independent panel of 12 judges voted for the 2013 MEP Middle East Awards made up of industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector.
The MEP Middle East Awards 2013 were presented by du, while this year’s Platinum Sponsor for the event was Leminar Air Conditioning.
