CB&I, the US-based engineering practice, has announced that it has won a $40mn contract from Oman Oil Refineries and Petrochemical Industries Co (ORPIC) to provide a Front Emd Engineering Design (FEED) study for the new Liwa Plastics project in Oman.

Orpic is looking to build a new plant that will produce ethylene, butene, polymers and gas.

CB&I will provide its own ethylene technology to the plant as well as designing all of the relevant units and utilities. The plant will be capable of producing 800 kilotons per annum.

The firm’s president and CEO Philip K. Asherman said: “CB&I has been selected for this significant project following the successful completion of the front end engineering and design of the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project for Orpic.

“This project is an example of CB&I’s ability to offer our customers a more complete supply chain solution – showcasing our expertise in technology as well as engineering, procurement and construction.”
