Diyar Al Muharraq, one of Bahrain’s leading urban developers, has appointed Nass Contracting for the construction of Phase 1 of Dragon City, a Chinese-themed retail development in its Diyar Al Muharraq master planned project.
Located in the southwest corner of Diyar Al Muharraq on an area of 115,000m2, Dragon City is the first of its kind development in Bahrain. It has a gross floor area of 51,000m2 with space for about 700 individual retail store spaces, warehousing covering 5,000m2, a dining street of approximately 6,000m2, and parking for about 1,500 vehicles.
Upon signing the contract with Nass Contracting, Abdul Hakim Al Khayyat, chairman, Diyar Al Muharraq, said: “We look forward to working hand in hand with Nass Contracting who has an excellent reputation for timely completion of projects, with great attention to applying the highest standards of quality standards in all their projects.”
“As per our contract, Dragon City Phase I will be constructed by Nass Contracting over a 14-month period,” Al Khayyat added. “The anticipated opening of the mall is June 2015.”
Ghazi Nass, CEO, Nass Contracting, said: “It gives us great honor to be awarded this contract by Diyar Al Muharraq. We guarantee that we will comply with the highest standards of construction which reflect the values of Diyar Al Muharraq. By adhering to best practices, we will deliver promptly as scheduled, in time for the opening of the mall in June 2015.”
The two companies inked the contract at a signing ceremony on Tuesday held at Diyar Al Muharraq’s stand at the Gulf Property Show, which is taking place at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre in Manama from 6-8 May, 2014.

The Dragon City project will be developed by Dragon City BSC (c), a subsidiary of Diyar Al Muharraq, and the operation of Phase 1 will be undertaken by Chinamex Middle East. Dragon City will offer discount and retail opportunities to local consumers, trade customers and tourists, and cater to both wholesale and retail consumers as well.
The facility will offer a variety of Chinese products such as home appliances, household items, building materials, furniture, toys, machinery, garments, textiles, footwear and general merchandise. The development is expected to draw in a multitude of visitors on a regular basis.
