Power and energy firm Schneider Electric has launched the 5-10kVA Smart-UPS On-Line range.

The 6-10kVA units are the company’s first single-phase UPS (uninterrupted power supply) range to feature unity power factor capability, while the 5kVA UPS offers 0.9 power factor.

According to Schneider Electric, Smart-UPS On-Line delivers efficient power quality and performance in a compact footprint. Its flexible design allows the units to be configured for rack-mounted or free-standing applications, making the new UPS easy to install, operate and service in almost any environment, it added.

The range also offers an embedded network management card to enable further accessories and communication options to be added.

Bill Manning, vice-president of business power solutions at Schneider Electric said: “With the rising cost of energy and concerns over efficiency, IT and facility professionals are keen to minimise waste by ensuring a better fit between infrastructure and load requirements. Our unity power factor UPS reduces waste as well as complexity while focusing on power protection.”

Schneider Electric said the product is ideal for a range of applications, from network and server rooms to branch offices and secure power uses. The APC Smart-UPS On-Line utilises double conversion, on-line topology, it added. This design, in which the inverter continuously provides regulated power output, is said to enable the UPS to protect equipment that is vulnerable to the slightest break in voltage or variations in frequency, such as devices with linear power supplies which are ubiquitous in the process and control industries.
