Members of the region’s interior design industry converged at the JW Marriott Marquis on September 15th, for the eighth annual Commercial Interior Design (CID) Awards.

The awards programme consisted of 15 categories in total, covering the entire spectrum of commercial interiors, from office design to leisure and entertainment.

Returning to the function this year was the American Hardwood Export Council’s (AHEC) Outstanding Use of American Hardwood in the Middle East award as well as the Lifetime Achievement award, which recognises the contribution of an interior design professional to the industry. The latter was sponsored by Marina Home Interiors, who was also the Platinum sponsor of the event.

Perkins + Will took home three awards at this year’s ceremony, including Young Interior Designer of the Year, picked up by Laila Al Yousif, while Diane Thorsen was named Interior Designer of the Year. The firm also won the Interior Design of the Year: Office category for its BP Dubai project.

The most prestigious prize, the Lifetime Achievement award, went to Khuan Chew of KCA International, and although she was not able to attend the ceremony, a video of Chew accepting the award was played for the audience, where she spoke of her work and highlighted what designers should regard highly in their work.

Design World Portfolio received two awards at this year’s event including the Outstanding Use of American Hardwood in the Middle East prize for Emaar Corporate Offices as well as the Behind the Scenes prize that was awarded to Leonardo Cale Lerma.

LW Design Group also picked up two awards, including the prestigious Interior Design Firm of the Year as well as the Interior Design of the Year: Hospitality for the celebrated Vida Hotel in Downtown Dubai.

This year’s new category, Interior Design Boutique Firm of the Year, that recognises the most impressive design portfolio from a firm with less than 25 employees went to Bishop Design.

Steve Leung Designers won the Interior Design of the Year: Leisure & Entertainment prize for Yuan in Atlantis the Palm, while the Interior Design of the Year: Public and Institutional went to U + A Architects for its ICCA project.

Anarchitect, in its turn, won the Interior Design of the Year: Residential award for a private residence in Dubai and the Interior Design of the Year: Retail went to Studio Bruno Guelaff for the Arteco Ceramics showroom.

This year, AK Design received the Sustainable Initiative of the Year award for its Audodesk project.

Finally, the Interior Contractor of the Year at this year’s CID Awards went to ALEC Fitout.
