The Oman Tender Board is to make a decision on 11 projects that comprise the Al Batinah Expressway project, an eight lane 265-kilometre highway linking the nation’s capital with the UAE via the Sohar Port and industrial area.
At present, the route is serviced by a dual carriageway road peppered with roundabouts which is frequently busy. The new road will more than double the road’s capacity, speeding up transit time for cars and trucks between the UAE and Muscat.
The project is split into 11 packages, six of which have already been awarded. The latest round of tenders, which opened in July last year, are for packages 7, 8 and 9. Over 40 bids have been received for the three packages, and there is just over a week before the bidding process closes for Package 11, and two weeks to go before Package 10 bids are opened.
